Myopia Control Treatments
We offer a range of proven myopia control treatments to slow the progression of nearsightedness and protect your long-term vision. Each solution is tailored to your unique needs, ensuring effective care for both children and adults. Explore the options available to help manage myopia and improve your quality of life.
Atropine Drops
Low-dose atropine drops are a safe and effective way to slow myopia progression in children. Applied at bedtime, these drops reduce the eye's growth rate without side effects, although glasses may still be required for clear vision.
Multifocal Contact Lenses
Multifocal contact lenses help manage myopia by altering the eye's focusing power across different zones. This encourages the eye to slow its growth while providing clear vision for both near and distance tasks.
Corneal Refractive Therapy
CRT, or corneal refractive therapy, uses specially designed contact lenses worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea. This non-surgical treatment offers clear vision during the day while slowing myopia progression in children. It's also ideal for adults seeking freedom from daytime glasses or contacts.
Who is a Candidate for CRT
Corneal refractive therapy can be used for adults under the age of 45 with a low degree of myopia to reduce dependence on corrective eyewear during the day. Depending on your vision prescription, it could take a few days or weeks to see the intended results.
CRT is proven to be extremely effective in slowing the progression of myopia in children. The ideal candidates are children under the age of 16 with worsening prescriptions and whose parents are also nearsighted.
Long-Term Benefits of CRT
While myopia technically can't be reversed, corneal refractive therapy helps to manage its development in children, allowing them a lower prescription as an adult. Having a higher degree of myopia can increase the risk of developing conditions like glaucoma, retinal issues, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
Since refractive surgeries like LASIK aren't recommended until vision is stable for at least one year, CRT offers a non-surgical solution for children and adults alike. In children, controlling myopia can even reduce the cost of refractive surgery later on since higher prescriptions cost more to correct.
